Sarah Ivey Photographer

Premium quality portraiture & photojournalism

Creating images that capture life's most cherished moments and evoke emotion is truly an art form.

In 2014 I moved to the Rangitikei from Auckland, where I had been working for the New Zealand Herald for nine years as a photojournalist. I proved myself as a highly acclaimed photographer.

As well as photojournalism, I am now using my skills and expertise to create premium quality portraiture for my clients in the Rangitikei, Whanganui and wider Manawatu regions.  I offer a mobile studio newborn photography service, as well as on-location portrait photography.  By special request, I am also available for documentary style wedding photography, shot in the true style of a working photojournalist.

Photojournalism

For the past twenty years I have been working for various newspapers and agencies in New Zealand and abroad.  I've spent nine years with the New Zealand Herald, covering countless major news, sports and feature assignments.  This has provided me with invaluable experience in this field. I am available for both commercial and editorial work throughout the country.

Family Portraiture

Family is where life begins, and love never ends.  Having a bubbly personality and gaining your children's trust is a key part of interacting with your family.  By spending the time to get to know individual personalities, I am able to get the most out of your children and allow them to relax and be themselves.  You pick the location, wherever best suits your style, and the end product will be images filled with love and laughter.

Please contact me to make a booking, chat about location options, or with any other questions.

Session fee - $125

Children in the Studio

For classic, timeless portraits of your little ones, you must capture their precious personalities.  I work alongside the kids to bring out all their quirky expressions and make sure they have a great time doing it!

Your babies and children will most probably be more relaxed in their own home.  So as with the newborn sessions, I will come to you.  All of my studio equipment is portable, allowing me to create high-end studio quality images, all in the comfort of your own home.  The studio setting is best for younger children and I like to allow 1-2 hours per session.  This does not include newborns.

Please contact me to make a booking, or with any questions you may have.

Session fee - $150

Maternity

Capturing the moment before your baby is born is a moment to cherish for a lifetime.  Let your bump get big, up to 36 weeks ideally for the photographs, and make the memories last.  You pick the location, wherever best suits your style, and the end product will be images filled with love and laughter.  Whether it's mum on her own, or with dad and other children as well, let me capture the timeless moments in a classic and tasteful way.

Newborns in the Studio

Every newborn is uniquely different.  With my newborn imagery, I will capture this precious time for you and your family, creating lasting memories for you to cherish.  It's all about your baby and although I do use props, I like to keep things simple and stylish, making sure images will remain timeless.

The best age to photograph newborns is at 5-10 days old.  During this time your newborn baby is still very sleepy and able to be curled up, just as they were in the womb.  They don't mind being moved around from pose to pose whilst they're asleep.  I find once they've got a belly full of milk and they relax in the warmth of the studio, they will generally sleep through the entire session.  I like to take my time and allow 2-4 hours per session.  Mum or dad are welcome to stay throughout if they'd like to watch.  I can also capture images of the newborn with parents or siblings at this special time.

I know the thought of leaving the comforts of home with a newborn can be a little too much to bare… There's no need to worry, I can bring everything to you.  All of my studio equipment is portable, allowing me to create high-end studio quality images, all in the comfort of your own home.

I also offer the option for you to come to me in Hunterville.  I'm well aware that some parents would love a morning or afternoon to themselves.  So if sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee and a magazine sounds like a dream, this option is for you!

Weddings & Engagement

I'm a documentary wedding photographer based in the Rangitikei.  I've spent over a decade working as a photojournalist for newspapers, covering news, sports and feature assignments all over the world.  My wedding photography is true reportage - telling the story of your day naturally - not asking for poses or directing the proceedings, but through unobtrusive and creative wedding photojournalism.

I am also able to capture you as a couple during your engagement, at the location of your choice before your big day.

Please contact me for pricing and availability.
